IHSA Senior Academic and Essay Awards
IHSA Senior Academic Achievement Award
The Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association looks to acknowledge students who have demonstrated multiple year dedication to their team while maintaining academic excellence. The IHSA Senior Athletic Academic Award recognizes seniors who have earned a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher based on a 4.0 scale. To be considered, the applicant must have been on an intercollegiate riding team for two years, if they attended a four-year college or university, and one year if they attended a two-year institution.
A team's coach, advisor, or designated college representative must nominate eligible students on the nominating form and include students' official transcripts.
Recipients of this award will receive a certificate of recognition for their achievement. Submission deadline is March 31.
IHSA Senior Academic Achievement Essay Award
Students who would like to be considered for an opportunity to win this special award must:
- Meet the IHSA Senior Academic Achievement Award qualifications.
- Submit a 500-word essay on what "qualities" you learn from IHSA competitions that have benefitted you in your academic years and in your future career.
- Submit two written letters of recommendation.
- Agree in writing to allow your essay to be submitted for publication should your essay win.
The winner will receive a $500 cash prize.
Submission deadline is March 31.
